ADSI Technical Director, Adriano Sanguineti briefly retraces the origin of this winning partnership: “ADSB and Selex-SI started their cooperation with UAE Navy Baynunah project, the major naval construction program in this Region”. The subsequent synergy suggested ADSB and Selex SI to put together their remarkable expertise and to set up a UAE-based technical and managerial Center of Excellence for electronic systems design, development, integration and maintenance, able to provide state-of-the-art and end-to-end turnkey integrated systems and aiming at training and employing national personnel in this challenging field.
According to ADSI General Manager, Andrea Barbagelata, during its first two years of activities ADSI demonstrated to be able to grow fast and successfully. Barbagelata proudly lists the main goals achieved in 2007: the participation, in February 2007, to IDEX 2007 (the biggest military exhibition in the Gulf Region) this event, in his words, “contributed to enhance ADSI visibility and popularity in the Middle East”; the award of two Programs as Prime Contractor, both for the UAE Air Force and Air Defense and a third contract for UAE Navy through ADSB. In the first program ADSI has been committed to the study for the development and production of an advanced electronic avionics kit, while in the second program ADSI has been asked to provide the UAE AFAD Flight Test & Development Center with process improvement and quality and safety services for supporting Capability Maturity Model for Integration (CMMI) certification, and establishing Quality and Safety management processes. On the UAE Navy side, ADSI has recently designed and integrated a shelter for Test and Calibration of Radar and EW sensors of Military vessels, with complete satisfaction of the customer. This solution can be easily customized for future clients.
Hasan Al Nuaimi, ADSI Airborne Kit Study Project Manager, describes the study: “ADSI was committed to study the feasibility of the complete design, development, qualification and production in UAE of a sophisticated electronic airborne kit to be used on board of the UAE AFAD Mirage 2000. We successfully completed the study in 2007 in cooperation with the UAE AFAD FT&DC and abroad partners, leaving the Customer fully satisfied”.
On CMMI program, ADSI Project Manager Saleh Al Harbi says: “UAE AFAD has requested ADSI to provide services in the field of process improvement, quality and safety management. The three years contract represents to us an important opportunity to develop cooperation and common processes between ADSI and UAE AFAD. We are working in joint teams with the Customer using the expertise of skilled resources from Italian companies with excellences in the field.”.
As result of these activities, ADSI started its expansion with the employment of new personnel from the local market (including UAE nationals) and with the opening of other offices in Abu Dhabi.
Initially mainly oriented to UAE military market, which currently remains the core business of the company, over the long term ADSI wants to diversify its business exploring new opportunities in the civilian field and widening its contacts to the entire Gulf Region.
Today ADSI is a vehicle utilized for a strategic transfer of technology program between Italy and UAE. Thanks to very solid historical and on going relationships between the two countries, Finmeccanica companies and SELEX-SI, also with ADSI contribution, are aiming at maximizing the opportunities offered by the exceptional momentum. Mr. Barbagelata concludes: “ADSI plans to expand quickly the horizon of its activities by undertaking strategic collaborations with other UAE and international partners. I’m absolutely satisfied with ADSI startup performance and I look at the challenging and exciting next opportunities with great optimism. I’m sure that in a near future ADSI will be the reference company for a number of young UAE engineers and managers willing to have a successful career in their country. We are working with enthusiasm especially for them, and our strongest allies are the best of the Italian professionalism and our friendly way of successfully working together”.
